The Detroit Red Wings assigned one of their top prospects to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL.

Steve Yzerman is renowned for his slow approach when it comes to players' development. This year, three young players made the team after impressive training camps, but many more are still developing in the AHL.
The Grand Rapids Griffins are off to a very hot start to the season, with a 4-0 record.
In a new development, the Detroit Red Wings organization confirmed that a top prospect will be sent to the AHL after a promising training camp.

Nate Danielson Returns To The AHL After Injury

Danielson has been recovering from an undisclosed injury that occurred in a preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres.
After that game, Todd McLellan was honest when he talked about Danielson's performances during training camp, stating that he would've probably made the team if he had stayed healthy:
"He's skating, so that's good. I don't have a timeline yet. I haven't heard that. But the fact that he put the equipment on and went and skated, it's a good sign."

"I think a guy like (Danielson), in my opinion, from what I saw, would have had an outstanding opportunity to make the team. And probably doesn't want to hear me saying that, but yet I think he does.

We need to get him healthy because I think he could play here, but that changes things. All of a sudden somebody else gets another lifeline, but they need to take advantage of it."

With that in mind, it's safe to say Danielson's stint in the AHL could be a short one if he performs well.
The Griffins will face the Manitoba Moose tonight and could tie the franchise record for the longest winning streak to start the season.
