"I felt the group kind of we didn't gain any momentum from the trade deadline, and guys were kind of down about it, so it'd be nice to add something and bring a little bit of a spark on the ice and maybe a morale boost as well."
With that in mind, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Red Wings trying to be active on the trade and free agents market.
A new report suggested that Yzerman should go after a renowned veteran set to enter free agency: Brock Nelson.
Avs' general manager Chris MacFarland offered insights on his acquisition after the team was eliminated by the Dallas Stars in the first round:
"Brock came in and did a good job. He didn't get a goal in the playoffs, but, like, we don't judge everything by goals, right? He's a very strong defensive player. He's a big body. He's hard to play against in his own way. He's been a proven goal scorer in this league. That's the danger of short sample sizes in the playoffs, right? If we move on and he gets five goals in Round 2 and whatever, everyone forgets about Round 1."
Nelson could play an important role on the second line, but also in the locker room. He has skills and experience to help the younger players develop.
