Detroit Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider will represent his country at the IIHF World Championships, with the honor of being named Captain for Germany in 2025.

The Detroit Red Wings' top defenseman, Moritz Seide,r didn't have much luck when it came to the postseason in the NHL. Instead, he'll be joining his teammates on the other side of the pond, competing in the IIHF World Championships on May 9th.
He'll be joining Lucas Raymond (Sweden), Eduards Tralmaks (Latvia), in a highly competitive tournament we're privileged to see every year.
This year for Seider comes with a different feeling, as he's been named Captain of Germany for the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
A massive burden to bear, but for, Seider, whose seen worse at the NHL level, this should be a breeze!.
It was reported by Team Germany.
Seider was the first Red Wing to commit to the event for Germany.
For the young Red Wings defenseman this will be the fifth-time for him suiting up for the event. He helped Germany attain a silver medal in the 2023 World Championships, the team's first in over 70 years at that point.
Seider's been a productive player for Germany, scoring 19 points (5 goals, 14 assists) in 33 IIHF games in the World Championship.
This season with the Red Wings was ultimately a disappointment, but Seider still has plenty of hockey left in the tank to play.
In 82 games this season with the Red Wings, the top-pairing defenseman scored 46 points (8 goals, 38 assists) and has six years remaining on his new contract signed with the team in 2024-2025.
He's paid an AAV of $8.5 million and won't be a UFA until he hits the age of 30.
