The New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings have completed a trade today in NHL history on July 29, 1986 that would ultimately reshape their rosters.

The Detroit Red Wings acquired goaltender Glen Hanlon, alongside a 1987 third-round pick (which ended up landing them Dennis Holland), and a third-round pick in 1988 (which ended up being Guy Dupuis) from the New York Rangers.
The New York Rangers acquired forward Kelly Kisio, forward Lane Lambert, defenseman Jim Leavins, a 1988 fifth-round pick (which ended up landing them Benoit Lebeau).
Hanlon, acquired by the Red Wings, a longtime NHL goaltender provided stability to Detroit's net and appeared in 135 games which spanned across three seasons, he posted a 3.56 GAA.
Holland, also acquired by the Red Wings with the draft pick traded to them by the Rangers, only suited up for a total of 29 games in the NHL.
Dupuis, the 1988 pick, had a brief stint in his pro career and never made it to the NHL level.
Kelly Kisio, acquired by the New York Rangers, became a cornerstone player who donned the 'C' captaincy on his chest for over five seasons. Throughout the span, the veteran tallied up 378 points in 336 games, while acting as a vital leader throughout that era of Rangers hockey.
Lambert, acquired by the Rangers, played 109 games, while Jim Leavins provided the Original Six team with great defensive depth.
Lebeau, the 1988 draft pick, never reached the NHL.

Clear winner in Original Six trade between the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings

The trade was a clear landslide for the New York Rangers organization who found a leader in Kelly Kisio, who spent a whopping five seasons with the organization.

Despite Detroit bolstering their goaltending, which was much needed at that time, the trade still goes down as a notable win for the Rangers.
