The Detroit Red Wings completed a trade in history on this day, today, for Norman "Bud" Poile, sending him to the New York Rangers for cash, as "Bud" Poile is a former Stanley Cup champion, and would build a winning team in Philadelphia later in his hockey career.

Norman "Bud" Poile only played 311 games in the NHL during his career. He'd come away with one Stanley Cup win with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and would build Stanley Cup winners in Philadelphia, the infamous "Broad St Bullies".
Before he ever built a monumental team, he was part of the Original Six, the Detroit Red Wings whom he played one year in 1948-49.

Poile's Sale To The New York Rangers

Poile played a total of 56 games in Detroit and would score 42 points (21-21) in the Red Wings winged-wheel.
"Bud" would later be sent to the New York Rangers for an undisclosed amount of cash to the Red Wings.
The New York Rangers yesterday purchased Norman (Bud) Poile, high scoring right wing, from the Detroit Red Wings. It was an outright sale. The sum of cash involved was not disclosed.
- The New York Times, August, 1949
Poile would later be sent to the Boston Bruins in the 1949-50 season, only playing 28 games in the Rangers uniform, scoring 36 points total that year (19-17).
He'd shift gears and would end his time in the NHL to play in the USHL with the Tulsa Oilers, and would conclude his professional hockey career in 1954-55 with the Edmonton Flyers in WHL.
Poile was the father of former Nashville Predators GM David, and was "Bud" himself constructed the legendary "Broad St. Bullies" as we know them today.
He left an indelible mark on the sport of hockey as we know it, despite his playing career being relatively short.
