Trevor Thompson, a Detroit Red Wings reporter for FanDuel Sports Network, suffered the same fate as his colleague Mickey York.
The
Detroit Red Wings will lose a prominent voice during game coverage, as it was announced today that Trevor Thompson was fired.
Unfortunately for Thompson, he met the same fate as his colleague Mickey York, only a day earlier, when his tenure at the regional sports network was at an end.
Now, Thompson joins his friend and colleague in the hunt for a new job.
When asked about the situation, he'd refuse to comment on the matter.
"I prefer to talk about it at a later date," he told The News.
Thompson has spent the majority of his time with the Regional Sports Network, covering the Detroit
Red Wings and Tigers.
During his time with the FanDuel Sports Network, he's been through a whirlwind of brand-name changes, including: Fox Sports Detroit to Bally Sports Detroit, and now FanDuel Sports Network Detroit.
The firing happened as soon as the
Red Wings' regular season ended, which, of course, is another case of bad news piling up for the Detroit faithful.
We have to speculate that Thompson is part of a reorganization, as Diamond Sports Network, the owner of the RSN, emerged out of bankruptcy in January and will be operating on a leaner number of staff moving forward as a result of cuts and reduced fee payments.
We have to assume the Illitch family will step in and augment the role, since their broadcasting partners will be unable to fill the job fresh out of bankruptcy.
