NHL Insider Darren Dreger has reported today that the Detroit Red Wings and GM Steve Yzerman could get an extension done with forward Patrick Kane.
Patrick Kane was one bright spot on a dismal Red Wings roster this season. Ending the year with 21 goals and 59 points, he was proving that Showtime isn't dead.
It's alive in Hockeytown, and unfortunately, his $4 million contract with over expires at the end of the season.
According to NHL Insider Darren Dreger, Steve Yzerman will look to reward Patrick
Kane with an extension. One that is well-earned, considering he was one Red Wings players we can't gripe about this season.
While we don't know the numbers that could be involved in the new deal, we have to speculate he's earned himself a raise, given how well he's played in two seasons with the Red Wings.
He made a comeback from a hip injury in the middle of the 2023-2024 season and managed to put up a respectable 20 goals and 47 points in only 50 games.
And Red Wings fans got to see a healthy Kane this year, tear through defenses, and add another 20-goal season to his career totals.
His last deal was rich in bonuses, to the tune of about $2.5 million. Will Yzerman keep his next contract incentive-laden, too?
Kane may not end up going cup hunting here in Detroit, but he has found a nice home in Little Caesar's Arena, and who knows, maybe a sneaky top-six addition during the offseason could push things in a different direction?
