NHL insider confirms insight on the potential firing of Red Wings' Steve Yzerman

NHL Insider Frank Seravalli gave us some insight on how the Detroit Red Wings could end up firing Steve Yzerman, and his presence gracing Little Caesar's Arena no more.
The Detroit Red Wings once again found themselves out of the playoff picture, for the ninth year in a row.
Even with the help of Patrick Kane and Dylan Larkin's 70+ season, the team didn't have it in them to clinch a Wildcard spot in the East Conference.
Fans and pundits alike believe Yzerman has acted too cautiously when he should be bold, and he felt the team wasn't worth a star addition. As he felt they weren't in "contender" status yet.
After six seasons in Detroit, fans want results, and so does the front office.
Could this be the beginning of the end between the two parties? NHL Insider Frank Seravalli believes so.
Frank Seravalli: I think he has no choice but to be aggressive. I think we've gone this far in the Yzerplan that they need to show significant progress. I thought a significant move in bringing in Todd McLellan, who appeared to buoy this team for a bit of time after Boxing Day, and then they fell off again. I think they've made the mistake of putting the cart before the horse.
The Yzerplan has famously fallen off its horse, and for all its worth, has seen the plan come undone, even at the slightest criticism.
Seravalli echoes a point that Yzerman did, just in a different way. Yes, Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane were nice additions to the Red Wings.
However, they're special flavorings for teams who are able to push into the playoffs and are contenders.
He's put himself into a conundrum, considering he'll have to be aggressive in free agency to put the plan back on track.
After two years of regression, and your team's Captain calling you out, it's hard not to see that Yzerman is on the hot seat.
Will this year be the nail in the coffin of the Yzerplan if he doesn't succeed?
