Patrick Kane leaving the Detroit Red Wings: A major development was just confirmed
With the news that former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is set to sign with the Winnipeg Jets, a major development sparks that his old linemate Patrick Kane decide to join him in Manitoba.
News recently broke that former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is going to be signing with his hometown Winnipeg Jets for 2025-26.
Toews hasn't played since April of 2023 and has been limited by symptoms of Long COVID along with a 2021 diagnosis of Chronic Immune Response Syndrome (CIRS).
But he's ready to once again lace up the skates and will be doing so with the Jets, who won the President's Trophy for the 1st time in team history this year as the NHL's best team.
Could his former linemate Patrick Kane be enticed to join him?
Noted Jets fan and TSN analyst Jesse Pollack wrote an inviting message to Kane on X, hoping that he would decide to re-join Toews in free agency:
Hey Patty Kane- You're more than welcome to join your pal Jonathan Toews in Winnipeg for another Cup run!!!! Why the hell not?!
Regardless, Kane is far more likely to re-sign with the Red Wings, with whom he's played since December of 2023.
Kane spoke openly of a
mutual interest between himself and Red Wings management of another contract while also noting it would be difficult for his young son to be separated from his friend Archie DeBrincat, the son of his current linemate (and former Blackhawks teammate)
Alex DeBrincat in Detroit.
Kane and Toews won 3 Stanley Cups together while with the Blackhawks, but they closed that chapter in team history when they traded Kane to the New York Rangers in March 2023 and also informed Toews that he wouldn't be re-signed.
