The Detroit Red Wings have themselves their 4th consecutive victory, beating the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 via the shootout last night at Rogers Place in downtown Edmonton.
For the 2nd consecutive game, the Red Wings overcame a 1st period 2-0 deficit, rallied, and seized the win. Michael Rasmussen deflected Jonatan Berggren's shot past goaltender Stuart Skinner in the 2nd period, followed by a breakaway goal from captain Dylan Larkin.
Lucas Raymond and Larkin scored in the shootout for the Red Wings, who also got 45 saves from goaltender Alex Lyon. They're now 12-4 under new coach Todd McLellan, who took over from the fired Derek Lalonde on December 26.
Red Wings fans travel well on the road, and the cameras captured a group of elated Red Wings fans celebrating in the stands at Rogers Place after Larkin's shootout-deciding goal:
And there was an octopus for good measure during regulation!
The Red Wings are fortunate to have some of the most passionate fans in all of the NHL, and one of the largest fan bases of any North American-based franchise!
This time around, the Red Wings enjoyed a better fate in Edmonton than last year's 8-4 loss.
As Larkin explained, the Red Wings learned their lesson from the difficulties of playing the Oilers last season.
