The Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat sent a strong message to Team USA's GM Bill Guerin: "I should be on that team."

Playing in the Olympic Games is a dream for most players, and when the NHL announced its players could return to the international scene, a lot of them started training and playing better, showing they take the opportunity seriously.
For Team USA, forwards like Cole Caufield and Alex DeBrincat have been playing well and were even fueled by their rejection from the 4-Nations Face Off.
But Caufield was invited to Team USA's orientation camp in Michigan last summer, while DeBrincat wasn't.
However, that doesn't prevent the Wings forward from doing all he can to make the team.

DeBrincat Shares Honest Thoughts About Being Snubbed From Olympics Orientation Camp: "I should be on that team"

Since he came into the NHL during the 2017-18 season, DeBrincat ranks fourth in goals and eighth in points among American players.
In an interview posted on NHL.com, he stated that he should be on that team and wasn't happy to be snubbed from the orientation camp:
"Obviously I believe in myself. I believe I should be on that team. I feel good right now. With that being said, there's a lot of good players. I'm sure they have some hard, tough choices."

"I definitely wasn't happy about it. Everyone there deserved to be there as well, so it's tough to be in the position where it kind of is what it is. It's water under the bridge."

The Wings forward also revealed that he talked to Team USA's GM and that he was going to do all he could to make the team with a strong start to the season:
"I did talk to Guerin. We talked through some things. I know he had some tough decisions there. It's fine. I mean, it's just the summer camp. I told him I was going to do everything I can at the beginning of the season to make that team."

"I'm sure they have some hard, tough choices. It's not really my job. That's their job to see who fits best on the team. Obviously I hope I'm there and hope I've, to this point in the season, proven that I should be there. But again, I've got to control what I can control."

"I believe in myself, and I believe I'd be good for the [Olympic] team. But like I said, it's up to them, so we'll see what happens."

After 21 games this season, DeBrincat scored 23 points, including nine goals, currently tied at the sixth rank for points among American players.
DeBrincat and the Wings will be back on the ice tomorrow against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
