Reports are unanimously choosing a specific forward for the Detroit Red Wings' biggest surprise of the season so far.

The Red Wings have surprised many experts this season with an impressive five-game winning streak after the home opener.
The team has been performing well most games, and fans can see that a massive step was taken in the rebuild during the offseason.
In a recent report, Max Bultman wrote in The Athletic that one of the main reasons behind the Wings' success, and the biggest surprise in the organization, is the rise of 2023 seventh-round pick Emmitt Finnie on the top line.
He was acquired by Steve Yzerman at the Nashville NHL draft in 2023, with a seventh round pick, a whopping steal.

Emmitt Finnie Emerges As Biggest Surprise In Detroit So Far

Seeing young players make the NHL isn't that common. Seeing young seventh-round picks make the NHL at 20 years old is even more surprising.
That's why it's hard to see someone else as the Wings' biggest surprise of the season other than Finnie.
Here's what Max Bultman wrote:
"How could it be anyone other than the 2023 seventh-round pick? Finnie not only made the Red Wings out of camp at age 20, but is playing on their top line and has seven points through the team's first eight games.

Even if the scoring numbers were much more modest, though, the Red Wings wouldn't care because of all the little things Finnie does: killing penalties, forechecking, finishing hits, and winning races and puck battles.

He's been a jolt of energy on the ice and is quickly establishing himself as a legit piece of the team's future."

In a new interview, the player opened up on his season so far, how he adjusted, and how he enjoys playing with his linemates:
"I feel like it's been going pretty well so far. Obviously, it took some adjusting in the first couple of games, just to the League. The pace is also a lot different than the preseason, but I feel good."

"I feel like my confidence has been growing every time I step out on the ice, so it definitely plays a factor. I feel more comfortable out there."

"Larks is a great player. He makes lots of plays, so he's a guy that's easy to play with. I enjoy playing with him."

"Back in Juniors, I feel that you couldn't-not take nights off-but take teams lighter. You can't do that here. Every team is dangerous. You have to bring your all every game, so that's definitely been something I've had to adjust to."

Finnie, 20, has tallied eight points, including four goals, in nine games so far.
