The Detroit Red Wings have been good enough to steal the headlines this season, as they have emerged as possible contenders in 2025-26.
In unexpected fashion, the Original Six team out of Hockeytown is making noise.
The good kind, where they get recognition for their efforts after the past 9 nine years, which for Red Wings fans has been a disappointment. They've made
the headlines this week.
The team has started the year at the top of the Atlantic Division, with Todd McLellan leading the way. The Red Wings are 9-4-0, and according to Sportsnet:
are similarly on par with the league's best. It's been nearly a decade since the Wings reigned as a perennial playoff participant
With Steve Yzerman doing his best to neutralize the ongoing despair playoffs that have been missed yearly, this could be a turning point for the Red Wings.
Is The Yzerplan Finally Working for the Detroit Red Wings?
Oftentimes, it can be said that the Red Wings have given GM Steve Yzerman too much leeway to do as he pleases.
He's made trades that didn't make sense, and acquired players who, as placeholders, were paid too much, or held too much term (
Justin Holl), or were just bad trades altogether.
Some of the signings seemed to make sense, like with the signing of
Vladimir Tarasenko, but his play style wasn't a fit.
This season has been a revelation for Yzerman and
the Yzerplan, who have seen the puzzle pieces all come together in 2025.
Can the team maintain the hot streak for the year and be the team to put an end to the Florida Panthers' dynasty once and for all by winning the Atlantic Division? Or will it fall apart by the season's end?
