Red Wings prospect continues mean streak, earns NCAA player of the month
A Detroit Red Wings prospect earned the NCAA Player of the Month award following an impressive start to the season.
At the time, the Wings management liked his hockey sense, his skating skills, his creativity, and his character. This is what they had to say when they drafted him:
"He has tremendous hockey sense, and he moves the puck very well and is a very deceptive skater. He moves well on the ice. But I really liked his hockey sense and his creativity." - Steve Yzerman
"He's a character kid. You can tell he grew up around the game. The hockey sense of where he can play up and down the lineup is something that we kept coming back to." - Kris Draper, Assistant General Manager and Director of Amateur Scouting
Plante is currently playing well in the NCAA for the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He even received an important honor in his league after an impressive start to the season.
Wings Prospect Max Plante Receives Huge Honor In NCAA
The Wings prospect had a very good start to the season, scoring 18 points in October. He led his team to an 8-1-0 record in the month with nine goals and nine assists.
His nine goals place him at the top of the NCHC's goal scorers and 2nd in the NCAA.
For fans who don't know him, here's what he said about his style and game in an interview:
"I'd say I'm a competitive playmaker," Plante said. "I love to win hockey games and I love to find my teammates on the ice."
His father, Derek Plante, played 450 games in the NHL and won the Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars in 1999, which helped him become the player he is today:
"I think it's a huge advantage for me. I was very lucky and fortunate to be around great hockey people. I'd say my dad probably watches more hockey than anyone in the world, so just growing up, we'd skate on the outdoor rinks and my dad would be watching hockey, so there was nothing really else on the TV."
Stay tuned for updates on Plante and the rest of his season.
