A young star goaltender has requested to be traded out of the Buffalo Sabres organization, and it could be an interesting opportunity for the Detroit Red Wings.
It's hard to understand the direction taken by the Buffalo Sabres in the past few years.
They weren't able to keep their stars happy, as we saw with Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart, Dylan Cozens, and JJ Peterka all leaving on the trade market.
Their rebuild is one of the worst examples to follow in NHL history, with rumors of key players once again on the verge of asking to be traded.
Recently, even Captain Rasmus Dahlin and top forward Tage Thompson were even involved in the rumors.
Now, a new report suggests another player has requested a trade out of the Sabres organization, which could put an interesting scenario on Steve Yzerman's table.
Former Sabre Craig Rivet Reports That a Star Goaltender Asked to Get Traded Out of Buffalo
On the After The Whistle podcast, former NHL defenseman Craig Rivet, who played 923 NHL games for the Montreal Canadiens, San Jose Sharks, Buffalo Sabres, and Columbus Blue Jackets between 1994 and 2011, revealed that Devon Levi asked the Sabres to trade him.
Indeed, Levi reportedly requested a trade after he was sent down to the AHL:
Levi, 23, was considered to be among the top NHL goalie prospects in recent years, and the Sabres won't let him go without a significant return.
Although many teams could be interested in getting him, such as the Edmonton Oilers or the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Detroit Red Wings could make an interesting proposal to the Sabres.
If Yzerman were looking to add yet another talented goalie to his organization, Levi could be an interesting player to target.
But with the way the goaltenders have been performing in all layers of the organization so far this season, it would be surprising to see him go after Levi-unless he sees him as a long-term replacement for Cam Talbot, whose contract will expire at the end of next season.
Sebastian Cossa has also been included in his share of trade rumors but has been playing very well this season.
The 22-year-old, six-foot-seven goalie is undefeated, with a 1.75 GAA and a .939 SV% in four games with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
