Red Wings fans upset after a suspendable play goes unnoticed vs. Islanders Thursday
Detroit Red Wings fans are upset after a suspendable play went unnoticed in the tough loss against the New York Islanders.
Thursday's game against the New York Islanders was a night to forget for the Detroit Red Wings.
Coming off a 4-2 loss against the Buffalo Sabres, Todd McLellan and the Wings were hoping to gain back their momentum in Long Island,
but they ended up losing 7-2.However, some aspects of the game that they couldn't control didn't go their way either, such as the officiating, which was highlighted by a questionable call in the third period.
Red Wings Fans Are Upset After Officiating Decision In Blowout Loss To Islanders
With just over 15 minutes left in the third period, and the Islanders already leading 5-1,
Casey Cizikas broke his stick on the back of
Michael Rasmussen after a faceoff.
The referees called a minor penalty on the play, but fans argue that the player could've deserved a major penalty for the cross-check.
Watch a video of Cizikas' cross-check on Rasmussen and a fan's opinion on the matter here:
"Still laughing at this being a 2-minute minor. Literally no easier scenario for a referee to call a deserving major than this one: offending team has already run away with the game + unprovoked cross-check breaking a stick over his back."
Of course, a single decision made by the referees doesn't impact the result of the game, especially with the Islanders already leading by a large margin.
The Red Wings will look to get back on the winning track tonight as they host the St. Louis Blues for the first of back-to-back games against the 2019 Stanley Cup champions.
