Red Wings, Little Caesars Arena snubbed once again following NHL's latest All-Star Game announcement
The Detroit Red Wings are feeling the cold shoulder of the NHL as Little Caesars Arena has been passed over for the All-Star Game.
As the event will be held in the UBS Arena, home of the New York Islanders.
The All-Star Game is set to take place from February 5th to 7th in the UBS Arena in 2027 and will be sponsored by Honda.
It will be televised on ESPN and ABC nationally, but it won't be anywhere near Detroit, sadly to say.
The New York Islanders Get Favored Billing over The Detroit Red Wings
Gary Bettman sure knows how to pick them. The event, which will take place in 2027 in Elmont, New York, was another long line of blatant favoritism after Governor Kathy Hochul called him out last year.
Now, the Detroit Red Wings fans are feeling snubbed as the state their beloved team has lost in twice this week, the Islanders (7-2) and Sabres (4-2), gets primacy over them.
Little Caesars Arena, which has been open since 2017, hasn't been selected to host a special event like the NHL Draft or All-Star Game.
Brad Galli of WXYZ asked Bettman about his plans with Detroit during the Stadium Series in Columbus last year.
Gary Bettman said "Detroit's on my mind," and discussed the possibility of the city hosting an All-Star Game or big event.
"Little Caesars Arena is a great facility," he said. "At some point we've got to get there. That's something we're working on."
For
posterity's sake, the Red Wings last hosted an All-Star Game in Joe Louis Arena in 1980 and the NHL Draft in 1987.
The stench of favoritism reeks again.
