A Detroit Red Wings' off-season trade target appears good as gone from Toronto during season exit interview

It appears clear that General Manager of the Detroit Red Wings Steve Yzerman will be looking to make a significant acquisition this summer, either on the trade market or on free agency.
One of the obvious free agents that can interest the Red Wings, who will surely be targeted by many teams if he were to end up available, is Mitch Marner.
The Leafs forward will be looking for a new contract next season, and after a tough elimination against the Florida Panthers in the Division Finals, his future in Toronto remains uncertain.
Today, in his end-of-season press conference, Marner provided comments on his situation.
He revealed that he wasn't ready to talk about his future in Toronto after an emotional loss in Game 7, and that he will need time to talk with his wife before making a decision on his future.
Per Chris Johnston, Marner didn't say he wanted to be back, even though he repeated that he loved his time in Toronto:
"I've always loved my time here. Loved being here."
Auston Matthews and Craig Berube also opened up on Marner's future. In their exit interviews, they both stated that they would love to have him back with the team next season:
"Yeah, it's tough. Like I said the other night, he's-well, he's like a brother. He's such a good teammate and friend. We're extremely close, and he's close with a lot of guys on the team. He's been a huge part of our group.

Unfortunately, that's kind of the nature of the business-people come and go. He has the right to make his own decisions, of course, but we all love him very much. Like I said, he's an amazing person and an incredible teammate." - Auston Matthews

"I love the guy and really enjoyed coaching him. I love his energy and personality-he's a hell of a player. He contributes so much to this team, night in and night out, in so many different areas of the game. I've got nothing but good things to say about him." - Craig Berube
While most people in Toronto would like to see Marner sign a deal with the Leafs, it may not happen, and the Wings should absolutely try to get him if he becomes available.
