Red Wings prospect climbing college hockey ranks: A great acquisition by Steve Yzerman
Steve Yzerman got a steal in the 2nd round of the 2024 NHL Draft with this Detroit Red Wings prospect, who is climbing the college ranks.
He has made a name for himself after climbing the ranks in collegiate hockey, after reports of him playing like a top-15 selection have broken.
The University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldog forward has proven that he's one of the best forwards in the NCAA right now, scoring 19 points (10-9) in 19 games, a point-per-game pace.
His performance has drawn the eyes away from Penn State's Gavin McKenna and squarely placed them on the UMD Bulldogs forward.
An undersung prospect who has captured the heart of the Red Wings faithful.
"If Plante keeps up this legendary pace, there's a good chance he will finish the 2025-26 season as the NCAA's leader in scoring."
Could Max Plante turn pro with the Detroit Red Wings soon?
As a top forward in the NCAA, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that he could entertain the opportunity of turning pro soon.
When he does, he'll be another key piece of the team's rebuild, which is gaining steam.
He could compete for a spot on the regular-season roster for the Red Wings.
His high hockey IQ, wheels that could turn him into a three-zone player with his talents, and reliable production.
Though at the moment, he doesn't have an "NHL frame," weighing in at 176 pounds; he'll have to consider adding size when he makes the jump to the NHL to make it difficult to push him off the puck.
