Former Detroit Red Wings goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic will be facing his former team in the crease on Sunday with the San Jose Sharks.
The West Coast road trip has taken a weird turn today. The Red Wings will be playing the San Jose Sharks, and the team will face off against a familiar face.
Oddly enough, Red Wings goaltenders Cam Talbot (Los Angeles Kings) and
John Gibson (Anaheim Ducks) both faced their former teams on this road trip as well.
This season, Nedeljkovic has played 5 games for the Sharks and has come away with a record of 2-0, with an .887 save percentage.
He's never been an elite-level goaltender, but this presents an opportunity for the Red Wings to finish their road trip on the West Coast on a high note.
The Red Wings are a team who have a high-flying offense and have been good enough to sit atop the Atlantic at the moment.
If they cannot close out the Sharks, there are bigger troubles afoot.
Alex Nedeljkovic's faces the Red Wings on Sunday
Since he left the Carolina Hurricanes, he's failed to find a true home in the NHL.
The Detroit
Red Wings traded Jonathan Bernier and a 2022 3rd-round draft pick for him, but he wasn't capable of delivering the kind of goaltending that wins playoffs.
He'd play a total of 2 seasons in Detroit, earning a $3 million cap hit and proving to be a goaltender who wasn't capable of reaching his full potential.
The brilliance we saw at first in Carolina.
Nedeljkovic played 65 games as a Red Wing and had a record of 25-31-11, with 3.35 GAA and a .900 save percentage.
