The Detroit Red Wings will take on the Edmonton Oilers tomorrow at 3:00 P.M. and will be going into it short-handed, as Todd McLellan updated the media on the status of their roster.
Many fans want to see the Red Wings play meaningful hockey this season.
This would involve a run to the postseason, and as a scrappy team, with a youth movement that is happening, the possibility remains there.
Todd McLellan on Patrick Kane's Status:
«Kaner won't play tomorrow. He'll continue to be evaluated. We'll have an update on him as we go forward,» the Detroit bench boss said in a video shared to the team's official YouTube channel.
The Detroit Red Wings Are Shorthanded to start the year
Kane's absence in the Red Wings lineup
will be felt, as this will be his third season wearing the winged wheel in Hockeytown.
The former 21-goal scorer and 1300-game NHL veteran has been an impact player in the team's top six. Scoring 59 points last season and
penciling his name in the record books above Mike Modano with his 17th 20-goal season in 2024-25.
The Original Six club will have to rely on depth options or a call-up in order to fill the void left by the three-time Stanley Cup champion.
But the tall task of finding someone to fill his shoes remains, and McLellan is still thinking of what to do next when
Connor McDavid and company arrive.
«We're still trying to figure that part out. We don't know if Raymond's going to play, we've got pieces to figure out. I can't tell you right now,» the Red Wings bench boss said when asked about the lineup.
The Detroit Red Wings will need a next-man-up mentality in order to overcome the obstacles with Raymond and Kane out of the lineup.
