Detroit Red Wings top Russian prospect Dmitri Buchelnikov had to get shoulder surgery amid an impressive season in the KHL.

Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings drafted well in recent years.
One of the most intriguing prospects in the organization, Dmitri Buchelnikov, has been developing in the KHL for the past four years and has shown that he has what it takes to become an impactful player in the NHL.
Indeed, the former Wings legend Sergei Fedorov, who works on Buchelnikov's KHL team, likes the player.
Here's what he said in an interview earlier this year:
"Yeah, he's a goal scorer, definitely. He's one of those. He can make a play, too. Make a couple of passes. He's one of the top six here. Most of the time, they start the game with their line.

"So offensively, really no problem. He will probably get his 20 or 30 goals here, I hope, because he plays power play almost every game (and gets) three or four chances.

The hockey we play, it's men's hockey. It's responsible hockey. He's not thin, but he's certainly not very tall. Yeah, he's a small forward. Nicest guy ever. Very talented."

Unfortunately, the player is facing adversity.

Buchelnikov Gets Shoulder Surgery, Expected To Miss Several Months

According to a new report, Buchelnikov, who missed the past four games of his team due to an injury, had to get surgery earlier this week.
He is expected to be away from the ice until next February, at least.
Per Hockey News Hub:
In 30 games this season, the forward tallied 10 goals and 10 assists. Last season, in 65 games, he scored 54 points, including 15 goals.
