Steve Yzerman has gotten at least one thing right
Steve Yzerman has had a lot to deal with as the general manager of the Detroit Red Wings although he seems to have successfully completed one of his biggest challenges.
Heading into the summer, Detroit Red Wings fans knew that Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond would be high priorities. They are both restricted free agents and are extremely important to the future of the club. Well, according to The Hockey News, the Red Wings have $17 million in cap space to work with in order to pay them. This is all thanks to the job Steve Yzerman did while signing other players within the franchise.
"We set aside a certain amount of money in the budget for them," Yzerman previously stated. "And as free agency went along and we're trying to get our own guys signed, we had to tweak things a little bit. But what hasn't changed is what we think those four players are going to come in at. We will get contracts done with them, it's just a question of when and then what term do we actually do on all of them."
It remains to be seen when deals will get done with Raymond and Seider. However, the team does have the money to pay them both. Simply put, Red Wings fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
