According to a report from the Grind Line Podcast, the relationship between the Detroit Red Wings captain and general manager Steve Yzerman is fine.

That is, if you believe what General Manager Steve Yzerman relayed to the public today during an interview.
At the end of last season, the two seemed to be at an impasse as Larkin called out Yzerman for his his inactivity last year, leading to a disappointing finish in 2024-25.
The team finished 6th in the Atlantic Division and failed to win a Wild Card spot in the playoffs.
He called out Yzerman at the end of the season:
«We didn't gain any momentum from the trade deadline, and guys were kinda down about it. So it'd be nice to add something and bring a little bit of a spark on the ice and a morale boost as well,»

- Larkin said in his year-end availability on April 19.

Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman Reiterates His Comments Were No Big Deal

In a move that shows complete professionalism from Yzerman, he didn't address the comments in a context that was a "problem." But instead felt that, according to him, they didn't affect the relationship at all.
While he wasn't a big spender this postseason, he made significant moves to strengthen the depth in goal with John Gibson and added former 1st-round pick James Van Riemsdyk to the lineup.
The only thing is now, will the moves now be good enough when April comes around? Will they give the Red Wings what they need to push past the finish line into the playoffs?
