It's a night and day difference for the Detroit Red Wings under new coach Todd McLellan, who has brought new life to the franchise that was tied for last place in the Eastern Conference upon his hiring on December 26.
The Red Wings were floundering under former coach Derek Lalonde, whose trademark coaching style was low-event hockey and dump and chase. Meanwhile under McLellan, the Red Wings have vastly improved not only their defensive structure but also focusing more on attacking the opponent's net.
Not only have they completely turned around their season, but they've also gotten back to within striking distance of a postseason spot.
And the statistical differences for the team under Lalonde vs. McLellan are vastly different.
Thanks to the striking improvements that McLellan has brought to the team, the Red Wings are riding a 6-game winning streak, tying a franchise record for most consecutive wins under general manager Steve Yzerman.
