While the Red Wings won't have a high draft selection this year, one author from The Athletic has speculated that Detroit will go for more offensive help in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

The odds of the Detroit Red Wings landing the top overall selection in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft are remote.
They're currently projected to select with the 12th overall pick, and one particular author from The Athletic has put forth a guess as to who GM Steve Yzerman would consider making the newest young face in the organization.
Corey Pronman mock draft sees the Red Wings selecting Windsor Spitfires forward Jack Nesbitt with the 12th pick:
Nesbitt is a big, competitive two-way center who has enough offense to justify a top-15 pick. Detroit has picked a lot of centers recently, though, so I could see it go toward someone like Jackson Smith alternatively.

Nesbitt's scouting report via Men's Hockey Neutral Zone reads as follows:
Jack Nesbitt is a prototypical power forward center with an impressive combination of size, skating ability, and a developing offensive skillset. At 6'4″, his frame and reach make him a challenging matchup for opponents, especially when he uses his body to protect the puck rather than exposing the puck trying to make high risk plays.

While he demonstrates flashes of high-end potential, his lack of consistent physical engagement, suboptimal finishing, and moderate playmaking currently limit his effectiveness. Nesbitt's ability to develop explosiveness in his skating, improve his offensive efficiency, and enhance his physical presence will determine whether he can evolve into a reliable NHL middle-six center.

Nesbitt has 64 points (25G, 39A) in 65 games with the Spitfires this year. It was a massive leap in production compared to last year, when he had just 18 points (9G, 9A) in 58 games.
