A former Detroit Red Wings 30-goal-scorer has been speculated to be making his way to Toronto this offseason in hopes to fill their void left from Mitch Marner.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have undoubtedly created a hole in their offensive depth following their recent departure with the organization's first-line star, Mitch Marner.
Now, recent speculations and rumors have unveiled that the Maple Leas are seeking to use an upgrade, but looking at some low-risk, high-reward signings.
While the organization would prefer to upgrade in the top-six, all those players have been signed to new contracts already, and a recent report has revealed the organization may be intrigued in a former Detroit Red Wings player in hopes to fill this void.

NHL analyst, Edward Eng of EdiorinLeaf, reported that he hopes for the Leafs to sign Andreas Athanasiou to a professional tryout to compete for a roster spot.
«Athanasiou still only three years removed from his 2022-23 season with the Chicago Blackhawks in which he managed to post 20 goals and 20 assists for 40 points,» Eng stated. «As a result, he is still more than capable at providing valuable secondary scoring to any contender.
«Having spent the bulk of his 2024-25 campaign buried in the minors by the Blackhawks, Athanasiou should welcome the opportunity to get his career back on track after just turning the still young age of 31,» Eng added. «The Leafs could provide him with that exact chance to show what he can do again on a PTO.»

Although Athanasiou is no longer in his prime years, as he is now 31 years old, he still has the potential to bounce-back as he once was a 30-goal scorer, and has had an extremely successful NHL career thus far.
