Detroit Red Wings acquire 6-foot-7 reinforcement: Transaction completed and a home run for Steve Yzerman

Players who don't get drafted in the NHL rarely make it to the pros, but in some cases, they can actually get a shot.

Many great players were never drafted in NHL history, such as Ed Belfour, Martin St-Louis, Sergei Bobrovsky, Dan Boyle, Mark Giordano, and many more.

Every year, teams invite players to camp, considering the low level of risk associated with these acquisitions.

In a new development, we learned that the Red Wings sent an invite to a 6-foot-7, 223-lb defenseman.

Carl-Otto Magnusson was snubbed in this summer's NHL draft. Now, the Swedish defenseman will get a chance to show his skills at the Red Wings' training camp.

His agent, Randy Edmonds, announced on Instagram that Magnusson will participate in the Detroit Red Wings training camp, as well as the rookie camp, ahead of the upcoming season:

Magnusson is set to play with the Moncton Wildcats in the QMJHL next season, following a year with Frolunda HC in Sweden. He took part in three games but only got ice time in one of them. He spent most of the season in the organization's junior affiliate, where he scored eight points in 44 games with a +16 +/-.

The defenseman also represented his country at the World Junior Showcase in Minneapolis earlier this summer. In five games, he didn't register any points.

Adding a player of this size to the blue line would be a smart move by Yzerman. If he can develop and get to the NHL level, imagine what it would be like to play against the Wings with Moritz Seider, at 6-foot-3, Simon Edvinsson, at 6-foot-6, and Magnusson at 6-foot-7.

He'll be an interesting player to follow at rookie and training camps. Stay tuned for more.
