Trade completed between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings today in hockey history
Today in hockey history, a trade was completed between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings.
The NHL training camps are starting soon. Both the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks will host their
prospect showdown during the next weekend, finally giving fans an opportunity to see where the young players are at in their development.
While we're waiting for that to happen, let's look back at a trade that went down between the two teams where all seven players involved never managed to make their mark in the NHL.
Seven Players Involved In Trade Between Blackhawks And Red Wings
Some deals are remembered, and others not. This one hasn't had a big effect on both teams, even if a whopping total of seven players were included in the deal.
77 years ago, on September 9, 1948, the Detroit Red Wings sent Ralph Alamas, Lloyd Doran, Tony Licari, Thain Simon, and Barry Sullivan to the Chicago Blackhawks in return for Hec Highton and Joe Lund.
The seven players combined for a total of 63 games in the National Hockey League.
Ideally, if the Detroit Red Wings executive vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman wants to complete a trade before the start of the next season, it'll be for players who can have a bigger impact, and hopefully play many years for the Wings.
Stay tuned for further stories related to the Red Wings past as we get closer to the start of their
Centennial season.
