Toronto Maple Leafs acquire underrated Red Wings forward in an intriguing trade pitch

After making several additions over the offseason, such as Matias Maccelli, Nicolas Roy, and Dakota Joshua, the Maple Leafs' general manager, Brad Treliving, could still be looking to complete deals before the start of the season.

Over the summer, many reports confirmed that fans could expect another wave of trades ahead of the regular calendar, and if that happens, the Leafs could be looking to complete a deal with the Detroit Red Wings.

David Pagnotta from The Fourth Period recently reported that the Leafs have two interesting forwards available on the trade block: David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok.

A new trade scenario found online suggests that the Toronto Maple Leafs could ship Kampf alongside a draft pick to Detroit in return for the Red Wings forward Jonatan Berggren.

The 25-year-old forward has been included in many trade rumours this summer. He has struggled to develop and blossom in Detroit, but it could be different in Toronto.

Last season, the 2018 33rd overall pick scored 24 points, including 12 goals, in 75 games with the Wings.

With Mitch Marner out of Toronto, the Leafs are looking to add forwards with upside in the hope of seeing it all work out on the ice this season.

Berggren would fit that mold, with a higher offensive upside than David Kampf, who would provide a more defensive role in Detroit. But considering that he's older and has a higher salary, the Leafs would need to ship a sweetener in the deal, likely a draft pick.

In his career, Kampf has scored 143 points, including 48 goals, in 536 games. Last year, he scored 13 points in 59 games, with a -1 +/-.
