Toronto Maple Leafs acquire underrated Red Wings forward in an intriguing trade pitch
The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired an underrated Detroit Red Wings forward in an intriguing trade pitch.
After making several additions over the offseason, such as
Matias Maccelli,
Nicolas Roy, and
Dakota Joshua, the Maple Leafs' general manager, Brad Treliving, could still be looking to complete deals before the start of the season.
Leafs To Acquire Detroit Red Wings Forward, Per Trade Pitch
The 25-year-old forward has been included in many trade rumours this summer. He has struggled to develop and blossom in Detroit, but it could be different in Toronto.
Last season, the 2018 33rd overall pick scored 24 points, including 12 goals, in 75 games with the Wings.
Berggren would fit that mold, with a higher offensive upside than David Kampf, who would provide a more defensive role in Detroit. But considering that he's older and has a higher salary, the Leafs would need to ship a sweetener in the deal, likely a draft pick.
In his career, Kampf has scored 143 points, including 48 goals, in 536 games. Last year, he scored 13 points in 59 games, with a -1 +/-.
