Trade completed between the Red Wings and San Jose Sharks: It will haunt Detroit for years to come
A recent statement from Bleacher Report reveals that the Detroit Red Wings and general manager Steve Yzerman will reportedly be haunted by a completed trade with the San Jose Sharks for years to come.
On June 25 of 2024, the Detroit Red Wings traded Jake Walman away to the San Jose Sharks, and it may be one of Steve Yzerman's worst as an NHL GM.
Jake Walman trade will haunt the Red Wings for years to come
According to Bleacher Report, this is one of ten deemed trades that will reportedly haunt teams for years to come.
"The move raised eyebrows as the Wings appeared to give away a good defenseman who had played well enough to earn a three-year contract extension the year before.
After the trade, The Athletic's Max Bultman reported the move appeared to have been made to free up salary-cap space and to clear some space on a crowded blue line. Rumors later emerged claiming Walman had a rocky relationship with the coaching staff, frowning on his "extracurricular activities" during stoppages of play.
Walman, 29, had a good season with the last-place Sharks, earning a team-leading 23:11 of ice time per game and tallying a career-high 32 points in 50 games. On March 6, the rebuilding club flipped him to the Edmonton Oilers, where he had eight points in 15 regular-season games while logging 21:26 of ice time."

Walman played very well for the Sharks and Edmonton Oilers this past season, especially in the NHL playoffs.
With Connor McDavid's contract extension in Edmonton looming, the Oilers will be set up for long-term success, making it an even harder pill to swallow while Walman flourishes alongside #97 and Leon Draisaitl.
