Trade Proposal: Detroit Red Wings Acquire $58 million Defenseman From The Buffalo Sabres

The Detroit Red Wings blue line has seen better days, considering the team rosters Justin Holl, and Erik Gustafsson who is woefully out of place.

One way GM Steve Yzerman could add some speed, skill, and offensive weaponry to the blue line is by pitching a trade to GM Kevyn Adams of the Buffalo Sabres.

That deal would involve Yzerman sending some serious pieces to the Sabres for a return of Owen Power who could be a top pairing defenseman in the NHL as he continues to develop.

Here's a trade that Yzerman could propose and instantly improve the blue line, which again has seen better days.

The Sabres would restock the lineup with two NHL players, a top prospect, and a first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

The Red Wings would immediately improve a blue line that is very thin, as far as talent goes. Power was drafted 1st overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2021 NHL Draft and already has 229 NHL games under his belt.

Power was in the rumor mill during recent trade talks but nothing materialized, but with news of other players wanting out of Buffalo, could he be another player who is dissatisfied with Pegula, Adams, and the Sabres?

Power comes with a hefty $8.35 million cap hit and has found a home on the Sabres second-pairing under Head Coach Lindy Ruff.

He has been projected as a top defenseman in the NHL and could find a home opposite Moritz Seider while the Red Wings slowly improve their lineup.

Power has scored 32 points (6 goals, 26 assists) in 65 games for the Sabres this season and could immediately contribute to a Wings lineup that currently has Ben Chiarot on the top pair.
