Trade requested: Detroit Red Wings acquire unhappy forward in proposed deal with the Blue Jackets

Steve Yzerman needs to pick up the phone, as the Detroit Red Wings could be in a position to secure a top-six winger, Yegor Chinakhov of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Detroit Red Wings need to make some moves in order to keep the lineup moving into playoff contention in 2025-26.
That may come in from their former rivals, the Columbus Blue Jackets, whom they don't meet as often anymore. Of course, with Blue Jackets forward Yegor Chinakhov requesting a trade, this opens the floodgates for teams with assets to acquire him.
Chinakhov was subjected to a healthy scratch after returning to the Blue Jackets from injury and missed out on ice time and special teams duties, which he had prior.
Chinakhov Speaks out Through Agent
Through his agent, he's requested a trade. Multiple teams should be vying for his services.
One of those teams should be the Detroit Red Wings.
What would the cost be? Hypothetically, it could cost Jonatan Berggren and a 2026 draft pick.
According to Don Waddell, Chinakhov returned to the team after recovering from his injury and wasn't the same player. He couldn't handle being healthy-scratched, according to the GM.
«When he came back, he was not the Chinakhov we were hoping he was, and he got healthy-scratched at the end (of the season),» Waddell told Portzline.
Chinakhov played 30 games, scored 15 points (7-8), and finished the year with a -6.
The former 21st overall pick in the 1st round of the 2020 NHL Draft was thought to be one of Columbus's budding stars; however, he is looking for a fresh start.
This could be an ideal situation for a swap between two teams whose players could use a new scenario to revive their careers.
