Trade underway with the Detroit Red Wings and another player's named to be gone
A player was identified as one of the Detroit Red Wings' top assets, with a trade reportedly poised to happen.
Steve Yzerman has a lot of things to consider if he wants to add a big-picture player before the season or the next trade deadline.
Adding one of them to the roster before training camp could be the addition needed in Detroit to get to the next level.
To make such a deal happen, the Red Wings will need to make the right offer, which will be easier said than done.
Detroit Red Wings' Top Trade Asset Emerges
Following an impressive rookie season in 2022-23 that saw the Swedish forward score 15 goals, his production dropped and was limited to only 12 goals in 75 games this season.
Joining a new team would be a great opportunity to bounce back for the 25-year-old forward.
Currently signed to a one-year, $1,825,000 AAV contract, Berggren could be an enticing option for teams looking to add depth on their bottom six.
But Yzerman and the Wings would surely need to make better offers to teams for players like Robertson, McTavish, Rossi, or Byram.
It's hard to think teams would accept a package involving Copp and Berggren from the Wings if other organizations make better offers.
With the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes also set to be active on the trade market before the season, and with a lot of great assets in their hands, the Wings could have difficulties pulling off a deal involving an impactful player.
