Today, it was reported that former Detroit Red Wings goalie and NHL analyst Greg Millen passed away at the age of 67.
It's with saddened hearts we announce the passing of former NHL goalie, and analyst Greg Millen today.
Millen spent 14 years in the NHL playing in the crease of six different hockey clubs, including the
Detroit Red Wings.
Among other clubs he's guarded the crease for during his 600-game NHL career were the Quebec Nordiques, Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues, Chicago Blackhawks, and Hartford Whalers.
Millen would retire after 1991-1992, and take up a new position as a broadcaster for the Ottawa Senators during their inaugural 1992-1993 season.
Millen wouldn't settle just for calling Senators games, as he'd find himself as color commentator on Hockey Night In Canada, and NHL On Sportsnet, where he'd find himself alongside the heavyweights like Don Cherry, Ron MacLean, Bob Cole, Harry Neale, and Jimmy Hughson.
Millen found himself successful in the broadcasting booth and continued to climb the ladder, calling three Olympic games, 2 World Cups of Hockey, Twelve Stanley Cup Finals, and twelve NHL All-Star games.
The 600-game NHL veteran would find a way to put his leadership to use, as in 2014, he earned a degree in that same field, and has continued to work in the NHL with the Seattle Kraken, along with various corporations.
Millen leaves behind a wife and four children.
We send our deepest condolences to the Millen family, friends, and his colleagues who miss his presence in their everyday lives.
