While the Detroit Red Wings did what they had to do this afternoon against the Golden Knights, it didn't move their odds of making the playoffs up very far.
The Red Wings did what they had to do in this afternoon's pre-St. Patrick's Day afternoon matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Raymond's goal was a long time coming, as it was his first in nearly a full calendar month.
However, thanks to Detroit's recent setbacks in 6 of their last 7 games before today, their chances at the Stanley Cup Playoffs remain grim.
As of now, they have barely a 5% chance of their 1st playoff spot since 2016.
Coach Todd McLellan explained afterward that the win will go a long way in building Detroit's confidence, especially considering that the opposition was the top-ranked team in the Pacific Division with a postseason spot already guaranteed.
Looking up at the end of the night at the scoreboard was a real good thing for ur team. Considering the opponent, the type of game they play - it was a pretty good night for a lot of our players and should give us a little bit of confidence.
The Red Wings took advantage of a Vegas club that lost yesterday in overtime to the Buffalo Sabres and were also playing their 3rd game in the last 4 days.
Detroit's remaining schedule, which includes only 5 more dates at Little Caesars Arena, is the toughest in the NHL based on their opposition's winning percentage.
If they are to break their lengthy playoff drought and return for the 1st time since 2016, they'll need to continue getting performances like they did today against a talented and dangerous Vegas squad.
