The idea of trading Moritz Seider, one of the Detroit Red Wings' most promising young defensemen, has sparked debate, especially with a proposed trade scenario circulating online.
While Seider, the 2022 Calder Trophy winner, is currently unsigned as a restricted free agent (RFA), Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde remains unconcerned about the situation, confident that a contract will be finalized.
The proposed trade would bring Detroit an immediate top-four defenseman in Matheson, as well as two highly-touted defensive prospects, Reinbacher and Hutson. Reinbacher, Montreal's 2023 fifth overall pick, is on the cusp of breaking into the NHL, while Hutson, who debuted in the NHL last season, could further develop in the AHL before making a significant impact.
Despite the allure of such a trade, the Red Wings' management, led by GM Steve Yzerman, seems focused on building around their young core, with Seider being a key piece of the team's future. While trade rumors swirl, it appears more likely that Detroit will prioritize re-signing Seider to continue his development as a cornerstone of the franchise.
