Sidney Crosby to the Detroit Red Wings addressed by NHL insider: There's a chance
NHL Insider Max Bultman has given us an idea on whether or not the Detroit Red Wings could land the Penguins captain, Sidney Crosby, and there's a chance as well as an interesting storyline to follow.
Sidney Crosby's storyline has been taking the news by storm, with the Pittsburgh Penguins' rebuild taking flight.
General Manager Kyle Dubas will have to consider whether or not keeping Sidney Crosby around is realistic with his intent to win another Stanley Cup before he retires from the NHL.
What helped fuel the fire surrounding rumors regarding the three-time Stanley Cup champion is his Agent Pat Brisson
commenting on a possible move, stating:
«I mean, I'm answering something that let's put it this way, it's always a possibility, you know?» Brisson said. «It's been three years they haven't made the playoffs"
Caveat emptor; Crosby did release a statement stating
he loves Pittsburgh and wants to stay after Brisson's comments.
We can speculate that Steve Yzerman would cherish the opportunity of acquiring Crosby by trade or through free agency. Giving the Red Wings a shot at the playoffs.
The Athletic went through the possibilities of all 31 NHL teams' chances at acquiring him.
A
trade could take place between the Penguins and another NHL team, as The Athletic's Max Bultman believes that there could be a chance that the Detroit Red Wings are capable of finalizing a deal with the Metropolitan Division team.
NHL Insider Max Bultman: There's A Chance for the Detroit Red Wings to land Sidney Crosby
According to NHL Insider Max Bultman, who took time to analyze whether or not a team has a chance at landing the three-time Stanley Cup winner and Captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, how did the Red Wings fare?
There's a slight chance that General Manager Steve Yzerman and the Red Wings could find a way to finalize a deal with the Penguins for Crosby.
Despite the fact that he's aging, he's still an elite forward in the NHL and could fetch a nice price for the captain.
The Red Wings do have the assets to make this deal work, thanks to nearly a decade of missing the playoffs.
But the biggest question remains if Crosby were to agree to a trade to Detroit, would the prospect of it work for him?
The team needs a few pieces to get over the hump, and he would be a key factor in pushing them closer to where they need to be.
"But while the Red Wings are closer to competing than Pittsburgh, they still haven't broken through. Is that a compelling enough situation for Crosby in his final playing years?"
- Max Bultman
That will have to be a topic of discussion for him and Pat Brisson, but given they've already
singled out the Montreal Canadiens, it seems like Detroit might be a bubble team to land Crosby.
"I'm sure the Red Wings would love to trade for Crosby. He's certainly getting up there in age, but he's still an elite offensive player and brings the kind of winning ingredients they need to get over the hump. Detroit also has the prospect capital to make an intriguing offer."
- Max Bultman
Last season with the Penguins, he scored 91 points (33-58) in 80 games.
