Don Cherry Calls out Former Hockey Night in Canada Partner Ron MacLean

Ron MacLean and Don Cherry have a history together. The two were co-hosts on Coach's Corner for upwards of 4 decades, and had a special bond that would be broken in 2019.

After his dismissal from Hockey Night in Canada, Cherry would go his own way and keep the passion of hockey alive outside ot the CBC, and Hockey Night in Canada ushered in his own podcast, the "Grapevine".

Now that it's concluded, Cherry would take time to address rumors being spread about him by former HNIC partner, Ron MacLean, who said Cherry used "Poppygate" as an exit strategy from his position on Hockey Night in Canada in 2019.

Cherry would issue a warning that MacLean (with Toronto Sun's Joe Warmington discussing the issue), a former friend is no longer welcome at his home.

Cherry's disappointment runs deep, as he's never been given a chance to speak on his side of the story, which only Warmington would give Cherry a platform to voice his opinion.

Cherry has for all intents and purposes moved on from the incident which is now 6-years passed. But his former friend, MacLean continues to harp on the past and has harmed his relationship with Cherry.

Was it worth it? It hardly seems professional at this stage of his career to bring up skeletons of the past.

MacLean also put out that Cherry was struggling to breathe due to the fact that he was allegedly suffering from pneumonia. An issue that, again, allegedly troubled him during a flight to Boston for Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals when the St. Louis Blues defeated the Boston Bruins.

Betrayal hits hard, and I can't imagine the emotions Cherry is going through right now.

In the long run, all they'll have is the past.
