The Anaheim Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek gave an answer to Steve Yzerman, the Detroit Red Wings, and the rest of the league on a Mason McTavish trade.
Mason McTavish still hasn't signed a contract, but multiple reports confirmed that both parties were hard at work to make a deal happen.
After all, McTavish has been training with the Ottawa 67's in the OHL instead of being at the Ducks camp, a situation everyone involved wants to see resolved.
Verbeek openly discussed the situation in a recent press conference:
"Talks are ongoing, and we've made a lot of progress over the summer, but we're not there yet. So, until we get there, he won't be here.
I've known (McTavish's agent) Pat Morris for a long time, so we both understand each other and know how each other goes about their business, so it's just totally fine.
We're closing in, I would say. But, like I said, we're not there yet. So, both sides have to agree to a deal."
With that in mind, it would be surprising to see McTavish being traded. In fact, Elliotte Friedman believes Verbeek has been turning teams away for a while now.
Friedman Thinks Verbeek Told Teams To Get Lost In McTavish Trade Offers
Players like McTavish aren't available often in the league. When rumors stated he could end up leaving the Ducks, many teams must have called Verbeek to inquire about the young center.
Friedman stated in the latest 32 Thoughts episode that Verbeek must've told all teams to "get lost":
Teams have called Verbeek, as you can imagine, about, 'Hey, if you can't sign this guy and can't agree with this guy, we'd love to trade for him.' And I think Verbeek has told everybody to get lost."
Despite all these rumors, it appears McTavish will remain in Anaheim. Stay tuned for official updates.
