Ex-Detroit Red Wings assistant coach Bob Bougher, who was fired on December 26 along with Derek Lalonde, has landed a new job with the New York Islanders.
One of the biggest decisions that Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman has made in the last year was the firing of head coach Derek Lalonde on December 26 and replacing him with former Stanley Cup-winning assistant coach Todd McLellan.
Also being let go at the same time as Lalonde was assistant coach Bob Boughner, a former NHL defenseman who oversaw Detroit's defense.
Boughner has now found a new gig, as he was named an assistant coach of the New York Islanders and will work on the staff of head coach Patrick Roy.
The New York Islanders announced today the hiring of Ray Bennett and Bob Boughner as Assistant Coaches. They will join Head Coach Patrick Roy's staff, including returning Assistant Coach Benoit Desrosiers and Goaltending Coach Piero Greco.
The Red Wings also parted ways with goaltending coach Alex Westlund and video coordinator LJ Scarpace.
Boughner was once a member of the Red Wings as a player, getting taken with the 32nd overall by Detroit in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. While he never played for the Red Wings, he did suit up in 630 career NHL games for the Buffalo Sabres, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche during his playing days.
He's also coached the San Jose Sharks and Florida Panthers along with the OHL's Winddsor Spitfires; he was also an assistant coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
