Philadelphia Flyers steal Detroit Red Wings coach
It has just been confirmed that a former Detroit Red Wings coach has officially been hired by the Philadelphia Flyers.
On Thursday, June 5, the Philadelphia Flyers officially announced two hirings as they acquired new additions to their organization.
These acquisitions were the signing of two assistant coaches, and one of them has been revealed to be the Detroit Red Wings' former coach.
The Red Wings assistant coach,
Jay Varady, spent his past three years of his NHL coaching career with the Detroit organization, and following a recent announcement, it has been confirmed that he will now be joining the Philadelphia Flyers for the 2025/26 NHL season, leaving the Red Wings.
Plenty of
coaching news has swirled around the hockey world as of late, including former Red Wings head coach
Derek Lalonde being hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
There has been speculation revealing that due to the fact that the team's recently acquired head coach, Todd McLellan, only began his journey as the organization's bench boss during the 2024/25 NHL season, he never received the opportunity to choose his own staff members.
That being said, it seems as though McLellan has a plan to dissect new and improved leaders to bring this Original Six team to a new level.
And this is something the team is clearly in desperate need of, due to their underwhelming 2024/25 season that left the organization right outside of postseason contention.
Off-season moves are vastly approaching, so Detroit Red Wings fans should buckle up as the organization is expected to be very busy.
Do you think the Detroit Red Wings made the wrong move by departing with their former assistant, Jay Varady?
