We regret to announce that another legend in the hockey world has passed away today, former Calder Cup champion, Providence Red's player, and AHL Hall of Famer Bruce Cline, died at the age of 93.
Bruce Cline's professional hockey career spanned a total of 13 seasons, and all of them in the AHL. He'd earn his spot in the AHL after being inducted in 2016 as one of the league's All-Time scorers.
He made his debut in the AHL in 1955-56 with the Providence Reds and would tally 57 points in 64 games.
Cline would skate with the Springfield Indians (one of the greatest dynasties in AHL history), Buffalo Bisons (with which he'd reach the Calder Cup finals) in 1958-59, scoring 61 points in 70 games.
He'd leave his legacy in the AHL as he'd earn spots in the Hall of Fame (s) in the Hershey Bears Hall of Fame and the Springfield Hockey Hall of Fame.
Cline was a former four-time Calder Cup champion in the AHL. Bruce Cline was known as a humble and genuine person, the
Springfield Hockey Heritage Society noted on their Facebook page.
Bruce Cline left an indelible mark on the sport of hockey, whether we knew his name or not. But he's a torchbearer in a history yet undiscovered by many of us who have never done the deep digging.
Today could be that day for us all.
We send our deepest condolences to the Cline family and friends during this trying time.
Rest in peace, Bruce Cline.
