Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Friday that the team has acquired defenseman
Gannon Laroque from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for goaltender Carey Price and a fifth-round pick in 2026.
Laroque, a 22-year-old right-handed blue-liner, played nine games in 2024-25 with the AHL's San Jose Barracuda, registering two points (1G, 1A). The Edmonton, AB native also took part in nine games in the ECHL with the Wichita Thunder.
Price featured in 712 NHL games during his career with the Canadiens, posting a 361-261-79 record, a .917 save percentage, a 2.51 goals against average, and 49 shutouts. The Anahim Lake, BC native owns the franchise records for the most games played by a goaltender and the most wins in Canadiens history. With 361 wins and 721 games played, he ranks 23rd and 29th, respectively, in NHL history.
Detroit Red Wings' key takeaway from the Carey Price trade
If Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes can get rid of a whopping $10.5M contract with ease, only giving up a fifth round pick, why can't Steve Yzerman move
Justin Holl's iffy deal?
The real answer is he can, but it appears he may not be as efficient as a manager as others.
Reported
trade talks involving Justin Holl have came out as of late after his contract was
supposed to be bought out this summer.
Yzerman continues sleeping, as other GM's continue to improve their roster.
