A recent announcement has revealed that there are currently three members of the Red Wings organization set to kick off their final season in Detroit.
Today's roster announcement by the Detroit Red Wings highlights just how close the NHL season is from kicking off.
With just 15 days until preseason kicks off and 32 until the regular season, crucial decisions by Steve Yzerman and fellow general managers must be made.
Those decisions include potential prospects who could make the Detroit Red Wings roster, or even players currently on the hot seat.
According to a recent report by NHLTR, three Red Wings are already on the hot seat and their days in Detroit are numbered.
Three Detroit Red Wings who are reportedly taking part in their last season with the team
Rob Coch reveals that Ben Chiarot is the first of the three names who is just a short ways away from being done in Detroit.
The 34-year-old defenseman has yet to live up to the expectations of his four-year $19M deal inked by Steve Yzerman in the 2022-23 season.
A move that's deemed a mistake by some Red Wings fans. He's playing in his fourth and final year of his deal, and is reportedly not going to be re-signed by the organization.
Secondly, Erik Gustafsson.
According to Couch, the Red Wings will be quick to get rid of him after his contract expires at the end of this season, if he doesn't have a breakout year.
He's also been rumored to consider a return to Sweden if he can't find success in the NHL.
Last but sadly not least on this list, Jonatan Berggren.
With a projected fourth-line role this upcoming season, Berggren has continued to not have proper opportunities to show his true skill in a Red Wings uniform.
According to Couch, he believes the 25-year-old forward, who's on a one-year contract, will be traded to a team that'll make much better use of him.
