According to an analyst covering the Montreal Canadiens, Carey Price's pending trade could end up being a part of a much bigger deal.

Montreal is nearly $6 million over the salary cap, and all eyes are turned to Carey Price's $10.5M AAV contract as the easy way out of those financial issues.
On September 1, Price received a $5.5-million signing bonus. Now, it would only cost $2M in actual money to the team getting him, which could help facilitate a trade.
In a post on X, an analyst revealed that Price could be involved in a much bigger and more complex deal.

Habs To Trade Carey Price's Contract To Target Top-Six Forward

On X, Jean-Charles Lajoie stated that the Canadiens GM Kent Hughes is still targeting a second-line center, and such a potential deal could involve Price's contract alongside high draft picks.
Here's what he wrote:
"Kent Hughes would be inclined to part with draft picks, including first-rounders, in order to add a natural center to his roster. A complex but effective deal, the kind the GM loves, seems to be taking shape. The Western Conference is one to watch And all of this is very exciting! The 2025-26 season is going to be fascinating!"
The Canadiens have already made several interesting additions over the summer with Noah Dobson, Joe Veleno and Zachary Bolduc.
If Kirby Dach isn't ready to compete at the start of the season, they have other players who could fill in on a short-term basis, but the hope in Montreal is to see Dach healthy once and for all.
If Dach is ready, the Canadiens will rely on him, and likely trade Price's contract alongside a sweetener before the season in a smaller deal.
