Per a recent report from The Hockey News, the Detroit Red Wings and GM Steve Yzerman could consider signing Viktor Arvidsson from the Edmonton Oilers.

The Detroit Red Wings have now missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs in each of the last 9 years, marking the longest drought in team history.
Considering that they are about to celebrate their centennial season as they were founded in 1926, it's a startling reality that GM Steve Yzerman is contending with.
The Red Wings are expected to be active on the free agent market, and have been linked to names like Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Aaron Ekblad of the Florida Panthers.
Another name has surfaced in recent chatter, per a report from The Hockey News. Could the Red Wings be in on Edmonton Oilers veteran forward Viktor Arvidsson, who who recently helped them return to the Stanley Cup Final for the 2nd year in a row?
As Arvidsson is still under contract with Edmonton, any potential acquisition of him by Detroit would have to be via trade.
The 32-year-old has shown flashes of being a top end player with multiple 60-point seasons throughout his career. If he can find the right spot for him, then he could potentially find that upside once again and would work as a relatively cheap option with a $4 million cap hit.

Fellow Swedish winger Lucas Raymond could potentially get the production out of Arvidsson if the Red Wings were to make a trade. The chances are they likely don't have to give up much as it's been noted, Edmonton is looking to get rid of him and Detroit can see if it would be a fit. Raymond has played with Arvidsson in the past most recently on Team Sweden at the Four Nations Face-Off this past February.

Arvidsson was signed to a 2-year deal by the Oilers last summer with an AAV (average annual value) of $4 million and had 27 points (15G, 12A) in 67 games.
