Change of plans in Detroit and Red Wings goaltender Cam Talbot appears to be done
The
Detroit Red Wings are shaping up for 2025-26 to be their best season yet after a disappointing finish in the Eastern Conference last year.
With the arrival of John Gibson, the team is aiming for the playoffs, and with goalies being in demand at the moment, we could see a move occur.
With the Edmonton Oilers on the hunt for a goalie, it doesn't seem unreasonable that GM Stan Bowman would call on the availability of Cam Talbot, as the team could find themselves in the midst of a goalie battle.
The reason? The Athletic's Max Bultman believes that
Red Wings goalie prospect, Sebastian Cossa, is expected to make the jump to the NHL to back up John Gibson this season.
How Soon Till Cossa Makes The Jump?
For Cossa, he's already made his NHL debut in the 2024-25 season. Cossa would play 1 game and end the night with a .857 save percentage.
Rookie numbers, to be exact.
Grand Rapids Griffins Head Coach Dan Watson believes he'll be ready for the next steps soon. For now, he'll remain the top guy in a Griffin's uniform:
«He's committed, dedicated, he wants to get better, he wants to be the guy, whether it's in Grand Rapids, I know he's gonna be challenging mentally for a spot in Detroit," Watson explained "We're looking for him to take that next step and be a good starting goaltender for us in Grand Rapids, If not, he's going to be in Detroit."
It may be premature to throw him into the backup spot right away, but with Gibson taking the reins as a full-time starter Cossa will not have much pressure on his shoulders.
Which means, the goalie of the future is already on the way.
