Rudy Guimond, whom the Red Wings took with the 169th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, has changed his mind and is no longer committed to Yale University.
Rudy Guimond, who is one of several goaltenders in the Detroit Red Wings system, has made a major personal decision on where he'll be playing this year.
He's changed his mind and is no longer committed to Yale University and will instead return to the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.
Taylor MacDougall, Moncton's general manager and director of hockey operations, released the following statement after Guimond's return to Moncton was confirmed.
We are thrilled Rudy has chosen to return to Moncton. He was an integral part of our group's success last season and now he has the opportunity to establish himself as one of the most impactful goaltenders in the CHL. Rudy has showcased elite composure and consistency. His decision to return to Moncton speaks to his trust in the process and desire to continue to improve under our goaltending coach, Antoine Samuel.
I am super excited to announce that I am coming back to Moncton next year. I've always believed in long-term development and that I have lots of room for improvement in getting ready for the next stage of my career. I'm just getting started! I can't wait to be back in the Avenir Centre for another season!
The Red Wings themselves aren't short any goalies at the NHL level with both Cam Talbot and
Petr Mrazek under contract through next year; there's also been a recently released rumor that GM Steve Yzerman could be in the goalie market this summer.
