Detroit Red Wings acquire a prominent forward in Los Angeles: "A fan favorite"
The Detroit Red Wings acquired forward Carter Bear 13th overall in Los Angeles at the 2025 NHL Draft by Steve Yzerman, and he's poised to be a fan favorite in Detroit for years to come.
The Detroit Red Wings have selected a top forward in the 2025 NHL Draft who is sure to turn heads once he arrives in Hockeytown.
Carter Bear, a former Everett Silvertips forward, was selected 13th overall in the draft and has shown promise in the WHL.
NHL Insider Sam Costentino with his draft profile:
"You can't take your eyes off Carter Bear. He's got that spark - the kind of player who brings it every shift, crashes the net, and still has the hands to finish plays. He's going to be a fan favorite in Detroit." - Sam Cosentino, Sportsnet, 2025 NHL Draft Profile/
The 13th overall selection played last season in the WHL with the Everett Silvertips. He'd score 82 points (40-42) in 56 games.
Bear's point production shows that he's active in the Silvertips offense, is capable of being a reliable finisher, and doesn't take shifts off.
Is it any wonder that Yzerman chose him?
He is a prototypical power forward who creates offense by engaging in chaos on the ice. The forward's prowess keeps his team in the offensive zone, therefore extending plays in the opposition's zone.
A surefire fan favorite, as he plays a gritty style of hockey that should fit the expectations of many Red Wings fans who miss the orthodox way of playing the beautiful game.
He's capable of creating space, utilizing hockey IQ, and knows how to create shots on the ice. While he doesn't unnecessarily sacrifice his body, he knows when to utilize it.
If Bear develops into the NHL-ready forward we expect, the team should be chugging on all cylinders every night.
